“Working with Tobi has been an educational eye-opener! I am learning so much and losing weight in the process. Her suggestions are practical and easy to put into practice. I have learned how to eat in a more healthy manner and have not felt hungry in the process. In fact, at times I think I am eating too much, which Tobi assures me isn’t true. Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use my insurance benefits?

I am an in-network provider with most major insurance companies. Verify your benefits by calling the number on the back of your insurance card. Ask the representative the following questions:

  1. What are my benefits for nutrition counseling?
  2. Is there a limit to the number of visits?
  3. Does it matter why I’m going? Some plans have restrictions on coverage for certain diagnoses.

What is a Registered Dietitian?

An RD or and RDN (Registered Dietitian Nutritionist) has obtained a degree from an accredited college, completed 1600 hours of supervised practice, and passed a nationally recognized board exam. We are then held to the standards of the board which requires 75 hours of continuing education annually. Most states, including Oregon, will only issue licenses to Registered Dietitians.

Do you work with people with Diabetes?

Yes, I follow the guidance of the American Diabetes Association. I will teach you how carbohydrates work in your body and how to know if you are getting the right amount. The good news is that the same healthy diet recommended for people with diabetes is recommended for their family as well.

Can you make a meal plan for me to follow?

“If you want to feed a man for a day, give him a fish. If you want to feed him for a lifetime, teach him to fish.” (Chinese proverb) I will teach you how to put foods together in such a way that you will feel more energized, full and satisfied. You will learn how to choose foods you like to make balanced meals and snacks to keep you going all day. I don’t ask people to give up their favorite foods, nor will I require you to eat foods you don’t like. There are plenty of good foods in the world for all of us to enjoy a nutritious lifestyle.

How is this different from Weight Watchers?

The basics of nutrition are the same, i.e. lots of fruit & veggies, everything in moderation, limit “sometimes foods,” etc. The difference is I will teach you to identify your hunger and fullness cues and eat accordingly. No more counting calories or running out of points!

How much does it cost?

Your insurance may cover most or all of the cost. Check your insurance plan benefits by calling the number on the back of your card. For those not using insurance, the Initial Assessment is $400. This is a 90 minute telehealth appointment where I try to learn as much as I can about your lifestyle, where you’ve been, where you are today, and what your health goals are for the future. At the end of this appointment, I will give you a brief overview of my initial impressions. We will identify at least one action you can take right away to begin your journey to better health. Descriptions of packages are provided here.

Should I wait to get started?

No, the wonderful thing about Eating is a Lifestyle is how adaptable it is to, well, your lifestyle! We will make small adjustments to your meals and snacks that give you more energy to get everything done. Whether you are going on vacation or there is an important holiday coming up, you can get started with learning the concepts and putting them into action right away. Click here to get started.
